Welcome to You Ask... Patch Answers where we answer readers questions. We recently received questions about the blizzard of '13. Patch readers want to find out how much the storm cost the town. Here is your answer.

DPW Director Richard Carnevale recently released the cost of the blizzard of '13. The town spent $172,063.83 on the storm cleanup.

The department exceeded the snow and ice budget of $175,000 before the blizzard of '13, Carnevale said. However, the DPW was able to get authorization from the selectmen to spend more.

They have to be prudent with tax payers money, but the weather dictates how much they have to spend, Carnavale explained. They had to spend the $172,063.83 to clear, sand and salt the roads after the blizzard of '13.

According to Carnevale, the snow and ice budget was spent on overtime; contractors; buying sand and salt, which is up to a high of $44 per ton; parts for snow plows and other vehicles and more.

The DPW plowed through their snow and ice budget last year as well.
