New Businesses May Be Coming to North Reading Plaza, Possible Renovations

What businesses you like to see in the plaza?

Back in January, North Reading Plaza was sold by Great Island Development to RK Centers for $11.6 million. So what will they do with the plaza? They are still working on a future plan, but there are several different possibilities.

RK Centers may renovate the store fronts, which, according to Director of Marketing for RK Centers Kevin Belmont, is something they do with a lot of their properties. New businesses moving in is also an option. There is one vacant 3800 square foot space open in the plaza. There is also a proposed pad site between Citizens Bank and Joe Fish (shown in photo).

It could go either way.

"It’s a stable shopping center that we would love to see be possibly a little bit larger, but at the same time it’s a good asset the way it is," Belmont said.

According to Belmont, since the property is still fairly new to them, they are "just getting our feet wet." They need to understand how the building and septic systems work, he said.

The old owner had already proposed the new pad site modification, Belmont explained, but it is still a possibility if they can figure out how and if it is possible to expand the septic system to accomodate the additional square footage.

RK Centers likes to update shopping centers, but need to see what the property will hold before they make any major investments.

"Our goal would be to revitalize the center and renovate," he said.

For now, RK Centers is still working out the logistics.

Please check in with us for more updates as they become available.

It would be great if they did some major landscaping so its not such an eyesore.

A nice restaurant would be great too!

I agree with Jessica, it is an eye sore. I'm really hoping that if another business goes in it is not a chain. spending money is good for the economy but better than putting it into the pockets of the huge corporations would be having more small businesses around. You get more friendly service and are really making a difference.

Hey cut and paste, sounds to me like you have OSJL on the brain. Why don't you move to Medford.

Maybe this new management group and their plans to "revitalize the center and renovate" will motivate the Stop and Shop group to do something with the vacant store site on Main Street. A little competition for tenants!

Have no fear what ever business that wants to go in there if the do-gooders do not want it they will drive it out of town and we will lose more tax dollars. Hope you all are enjoying the tax money we are losing at the old S&S..

Cut and paste, it's time to think outside the box store. Tear down the existing plaza. Viva Las Vegas! North Reading Selectman should contact Steve Wynn to see if he would be interested in buying the property from RK so he can build a casino there. Talk about huge revenue.......

@ Cillie Man, You think calling people do-gooders is name calling? Get a life who ever you are. At least I have the guts to use my real name. Unlike you.

Must put the blame on the town council members for allowing S&S to move stopping a competitor from moving into the town.

Too bad they can't replace Walmart with a decent, clean store that doesn't stink.

I was thinking a new improved Super Walmart at the old Stop & Shop. New Walmart would be clean, well-organized, fully stocked, with smiling, happy employees ready to help. Trader Joes could go where the current gross Walmart is.
