Perfection on the Horizon for NRHS Boys Hoops
During a slow week of sports, the Hornets look to cap an undefeated regular season.
It's a bit of a slower week than usual for North Reading sports teams with the postseason on the horizon. But one of the varsity games on the schedule could be a memorable one.
Joe Casey's Hornet boys basketball team enters a Tuesday tilt against Shawsheen Technical High School with the chance to polish off an undefeated season.
North Reading enters the game with a record of 19-0 on the year, thanks to a smothering defense that is among the best in the entire state.
The Hornets narrowly escaped Triton in their last game, snagging a road win by a 46-44 margin. Tuesday's game begins at 7 p.m. in Billerica.
"It’s been one of those special season," Casey told Patch in a question and answer that ran last week. "I’ve been here 12 years and this is certainly the best start we’ve had. This is our best season record in about 30 years. It’s been fun."
The JV hockey team skates on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Marblehead while the JV basketball team hits the court at 5:30 p.m. at Shawsheen on Wednesday.
North Reading and Lynnfield's combined wrestling team has already capped its stellar season with an undefeated regular season and a North Division 3 championship win over the weekend. Next up for the grapplers is Tuesday and Wednesday's Division 3 state tournament match, which takes place at Wakefield High School.
The Hornets boys hockey team has multiple games to close out the week, needing two points to clinch a postseason berth.
The girls basketball team will be heading to the postseason next week as well, while the hockey team polished off its regular season with an 8-5-2 mark.
