Postseason Brackets Unveiled for Hornet Teams

The North Reading High School boys and girls basketball teams will join the Hornet hockey team in the MIAA playoffs starting this week.

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association revealed its postseason brackets over the weekend, and a trio of North Reading High School teams are among the teams that will get to work in the upcoming week.

Boys Basketball

The Hornets haven't lost this season, a trend they hope to continue throughout the North Division 3 bracket.

After a 20-0 regular season, North Reading enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Hornets earned a first round bye and will take on the winner of Northeast Regional versus Watertown in the quarterfinal round.

That game is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 3, at North Reading.

Girls Basketball

In the North Division 3 girls bracket, the No. 13 Lady Hornets record of 10-10 qualified them for the postseason and earned them a date with No. 4 Ipswich in the opening round. The game is slated for Wednesday at 7 p.m. and will take place in Ipswich.

The winner of that tilt will take on either Winthrop or Weston in the quartefinals. The date for that game is yet to be decided.

Boys Hockey

North Reading officially clinched its hockey postseason berth in the final week of the regular season, and moved up to the No. 11 seed with a record of 10-7-3.

The Hornets take on No. 6 Boston Latin on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Woburn. If the locals able to advance the team faces a potentially daunting quarterfinal match up.

Wilmington takes on Stoneham in its first round match up. If it's Wilmington that advances, the North Reading-Boston Latin winner would be faced with a battle against the defending Division 2 champions.

In addition, Austin Prep earned the No. 4 seed in the Super 8 tournament. They will take on No. 5 Reading in the opening best of three series. Austin Prep's roster features Dan O'Toole, senior captain Nolan Vesey, Mike Paglucca and Bob Carpenter, all North Reading residents.
