Tick and Lyme Awareness

If you live here, you already know ticks are literally everywhere. Lyme disease is real; but 100% preventable regular vigilance. Doing a bodily tick search nightly is the first and easiest way to keep ticks off yourself, your kids and pets and out of your home.

North Reading should be doing more to educate our kids (and adults) about ticks and tick bite prevention.

Following Natick's lead would be a simple start.

I agree with Michael. Anytime you are near the woods check for ticks. This is especially important for your children. The symptoms may go undetected for months and can lead to long term disability. I know of several people still suffering from the disease both young and old. Significantly lowering the deer population will also help combat the spread of Lyme. Communities with anti hunting laws like Ipswich have a higher per capita proliferation of Lyme. An interesting book called "disguised as the devil" by M.M. Drymon explores the thesis that Lyme was at the root of the Salem witch trials. The book is very well researched and not only explores the disease but describes the evolution of our local topography during the early colonial era. It is available on Amazon. E
