NRHS Parking Passes Sold Out

North Reading High School parking permits are sold out, according to Principal Jon Bernard. So how should students plan to get to school now if they don't have a place to park? And what options does the school have in mind? There are a few.

Available parking permits for students for the 2013-2014 school year were sold out quickly and now there aren't any additional permits available. Not all of the seniors were able to secure a permit, according to resident John Intorcio.

People have been reasonable given the circumstances, Bernard said, and he is appreciative of that.

"I realize that this information may cause concern for some parents and students, but I have done my best with the help of the office staff to accommodate the many requests for parking permits. Please note that only those students with a parking permit will be allowed to park on site at the high school for the coming school year," Bernard said.

He went on to say that he is "optimistic that the parking lot commonly referred to as the 'student parking lot,' which is currently closed, will be open in the fall thus creating a fairly significant additional number of parking spaces for students."

The exact date of that happening has yet to be determined and the number of spaces is also unknown. Bernard has been meeting with contractors looking for options for additional parking spaces, he said.

Any student who planned to get a parking permit should fill out a requisite form, which can be found on the high school's website under the School News. The forms will serve as the waiting list.

Until then, carpooling, taking the bus, or being dropped off by parents are the students' only other options for getting to school this year.

Free temporary bus passes will be provided to students, and their siblings, who wanted a parking permit and didn't get one. The passes are currently being made and will be available for pick up at the high school at some point in the next few days.

"Please note that this offer applies only to students who are currently on the waiting list for a parking space should one become available.  It is hoped that these students will be accommodated with a parking space at some time in the future but please understand that this cannot be guaranteed," Bernard said.
