Health Inspections: Centre Cafe, China Cuisine and Great American Tavern

Restaurant inspections are done twice per year in North Reading. Several restaurants in town received violations during their inspections this year.

If there are violations, the inspector always returns for a follow up inspection to ensure that the violations are corrected. According to the Health Department, they have yet to receive the paperwork regarding follow-ups for the inspections listed below.

Here are details of the inspections provided by the Health Department:

Centre Café

The Centre Café was inspected in April. The inspector did not list any violations, but in the comment section of the report wrote that there was considerable improvement in the kitchen, material needed to be removed from the downstairs and the waitress station needed to be remodeled within 60 days.

China Cuisine

China Cuisine was inspected in April this year. The inspector listed two violations and one of them violated provisions related to foodborne illness interventions and risk factors.

The inspector listed the following descriptions for the violations:

  • Vent above grill, a walk needed cleaning
  • No cook food below raw food
  • Rice refrigerator close to danger zone

Great American Tavern

The Great American Tavern was inspected this year in May. The inspector listed three violations, and all of those violated provisions related to foodborne illness interventions and risk factors.

The violations were described as:

  • Bare hand contact with ready to eat food
  • Ready to eat food, crab meat under raw food
  • Salad unit for dressing internal tin chicken salad 49 degrees

In the comments section of the inspection report, the inspector noted that the staff needed training on food handling and that all items in the refrigerator should be covered.
