Thirty-six North Reading residents filed million-dollar tax returns in 2011, an increase of 16 percent over the previous year.

That means that one out of every 424 residents filed a million-dollar return, reported the Boston Business Journal.

North Reading is short of the Massachusetts average by community, which was 51, but higher than the state median, which was 14.

Boston, Newton, Wellesley, Weston and Cambridge were the top five for millionaires, according to BBJ.

Is a "millionaire" someone who earns a million dollars in a years, as would be shown on a tax return, or someone who has more than a million dollars in assets, as would not be revealed? I think the latter. And I think there are many millionaires that don't make a million dollars a year.
