Obituary from the Croswell Funeral Home:

James G. Haerer, 59, of Andover, formerly of North Reading, died peacefully at his home on Monday, May 5, 2014, after a brave battle with his illness.

Born in Woburn, MA on April 20, 1955. He attended North Reading Public Schools and was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1972.

He worked at Kitty’s Restaurant in North Reading for many years. At the age of 11, Jimmy started his life-long career at his family-owned restaurant, Kitty’s. From making pizza boxes at age 11 to becoming one of the most hardworking, witty and “charismatic” bar managers, Jimmy was the reason why so many came to Kitty’s, whether to eat and drink or to work. He was always being told to smile and when he did it never was without one of his witty remarks.

Jimmy was absolutely the most loving, protective, compassionate and selfless father to his four children.

Jimmy was artistic and had an amazingly creative mind. He loved the beach, fishing, painting and spending every free minute he had with his children. He loved playing Let It Ride and occasionally bought a scratch ticket or two. A few games of Keno never hurt.

Family members include his loving mother, Juanita M. (White) Haerer of North Reading and his late father, Frederick S. Haerer; sons, Jonathan J. Haerer of Andover; Jacob J. and Joshua J. Haerer, both of Wilmington; his daughter, Nicole K. Haerer of Andover; and his sisters, Denise A. Haerer of South Yarmouth and Kim S. Callahan of Haverhill. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

His funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading on Tuesday, May 13 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street (Rt. 62), North Reading. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 12 from 3 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to: Nicole D’Amelio, FBO Jacob & Joshua Haerer, 6F Seven Springs Lane, Burlington, MA 01803.

So saddened with this news. Went to NR to visit an old high school friend, we graduated in 73.........I knew Jimmy and he was such a great guy...........found out about his passing by the woman at the bar after telling her I haven't been in Kitty's since I was much younger.............I asked about Debbie and if she is still amongst the family affiliates in the business, I then asked about Jimmy............was very sad to hear that he had passed(: Life is just too dang short! Rest in peace Jimmy! My heart goes out to your family and all those who you loved.
