Back in the Garden

After a long winter, it's time to assess the damage to the garden and refresh the plants.

It's time to get back into the garden, as the temperatures are getting warmer here in New England. I spent my weekend clearing out the gardens — we have five of them, counting the feeble attempt at putting some phlox by the road.

The front garden, pictured here, is cleared and mulched, but I'm afraid some of our perennials may not be coming back. The Forget-Me-Nots don't seem to showing up again, and some others aren't appearing yet. But there's still time, as we've planted many flowers and bulbs throughout the seasons.

The rock garden is thriving in the back, which is really strange, as it's built up completely on ledge! The silver mound wormwood is already coming back, as are the Arkansas Blue Star plants. The two back gardens by the house are also already springing back to life.

How did your gardens survive the winter? Are your perennials returning to glory? Will you be putting in new plants or adding annuals this spring? Let me know in the comments!
