North Reading Reads 2013: Boston Scenes, Exhibit of Local Artists

Boston Scenes, an exhibit of photographs and paintings by local artists, is now on display at the library, as part of North Reading Reads 2013.

As part of the year’s community reading program, honoring the late author Robert B. Parker, the library is holding an exhibit of photographs and paintings by local artists, called Boston Scenes. Many of the images depict places and views you will recognize, including the Zakim Bridge, the Swan Boats, Fenway Park, the Filene’s clock, and State House Dome, but some are less familiar—a view from under the Zakim Bridge and the rail yards from the Gilmore Street Bridge. As always we are delighted to display the work of so many talented and dedicated artists living in the area.

Here is a list of the artists, most of whom are from North Reading:

Louise Anderson, Hugh Connor, Steve DiFranza, Ruth Hagearty, Ken Jordan, Kathy Lee, Jacob Mosser, Philip “Bud” Marvel, Laura Penney, Meg Robertson,  Judy Spurr, Nancy B. Stewart, and Maryellen Stone.

Thank you to Meg Robertson, for organizing the exhibit. See her photograph, "Filene’s," above. You’ll also find some of these images on the library’s Facebook page.

North Reading Reads 2013 Update:

We have held two lively discussions of A Catskill Eagle, Robert B. Parker’s novel published in 1985. People admire Parker’s compressed style, his dialog, his wit, and his local settings. His books are circulating frequently this month but he wrote a lot and there are still plenty on the shelves – in hardback, paperback, Large Print, and audio.
