OverDrive READ: A New Option

OverDrive READ (browser-based ebook reader) now makes it easier to download an ebook. You can download a title right to your screen, with no additional software. You’ll find the link to OverDrive right on the library’s home page. Just click on Download Audio/E-books .

When you choose a title, select the READ option. Download your title and it will shortly appear on the screen. If you want to read your book later, login to your account and you’ll find your title right there.   is currently compatible with many devices. On the OverDrive website you can learn more and find out if your own device is compatible with this new READ option.

A few tips about OverDrive, if you haven’t tried it yet. You need a library card in good standing. You can set your own checkout period of seven, fourteen or twenty one days and you can return a title early. You are allowed to check out a maximum of five titles at one time – but there’s no limit on holds. OverDrive also has a substantial collection of downloadable audiobooks.

OverDrive’s Help section now offers many useful video tutorials.  Our library also subscribes to OverDrive Advantage, with extra titles just for North Reading card holders.  All Massachusetts residents are eligible for an ecard from the Boston Public Library, which gives you access to BPL’s OverDrive collection, as well.
