NRLL & Elementary Schools Team Up For Spring Baseball Registration

North Reading Little League is encouraging the town’s youngsters to “hit a home run for their school” by signing up for the 2014 NRLL spring baseball season.

It’s all part of a program that NRLL is coordinating with the Batchelder, Hood, and Little schools to see which one will have the highest percentage of its students register for the upcoming season. The final tally will include all youngsters in grades K-5 already signed up and those who register by Friday, March 7, with the winning school receiving a $250 donation to its PTO/PA.

Registration can be done on-line through the league’s official website, www.nrll.org. During the sign-up process, parents will be asked to list their child’s school. For those who have already signed up, NRLL will work with the principals to identify the youngster’s school.

“We’re excited about this program because we believe it’s a good, fun way to encourage signups and, at the same time, to support our schools,” said NRLL president Eddie Madden. “In addition to returning players, we’re looking to attract those who are interested in playing organized baseball for the first time and others who may have played in the past but have taken a year or two off.”

NRLL runs leagues for boys and girls ages 5-16—from Tee-ball through Senior League.

“Few towns have the baseball tradition that we enjoy in North Reading,” said Madden. “We believe that once a youngster signs up for our Little League program and discovers the fun involved—and their parents see the exceptional value we offer—that they’ll want to continue playing year after year.”

Although the elementary school program ends March 7—one day prior to Minor League tryouts—NRLL will accept registrations beyond that date. The NRLL spring season begins in early April and concludes in mid June, capped by Field Day for the younger divisions and playoffs for the older divisions. NRLL also offers summer and fall programs, and attract more than 600 youngsters annually.
