Obituary: A. Bruce Colby, Retired North Reading Firefighter

A. Bruce Colby served 27 years on the North Reading Fire Department.

A. Bruce Colby, 72, of Peyton, Colo., and formerly of North Reading and Melrose, died at his home on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 after a lengthy illness.

Colby was a North Reading firefighter for 27 years He also worked at Moynihan Lumber Company in North Reading and was a football coach for North Reading Pop Warner, North Reading Junior High, North Reading High School and Winchester High School.

He lived in North Reading for 46 years and was a member of the North Reading Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M., and North Reading Moose Lodge.

Family members include his wife of 42 years, Mary H. (White) Colby;  sons, Robert Colby of  Colorado Springs, Colo., and William Colby and his wife Megan of Medway; and his daughter, Deborah Putney and her husband Tom of Peyton, Colo. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Emma, Avery and Kacy Colby (Bob), T.J., Jason and Ashleigh Putney (Debbie) and Xander, Logan, Chloe, Jocelyn and Kaiden Colby (Billy).

A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill St., North Reading. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m.
