Car Strikes Tree, Crashes into Barn

Two occupants were taken to the hospital.

Around 1 a.m. Friday morning, a car crashed into a tree and then into a barn on Chestnut Street, according to North Reading Police. Two occupants were transported to the hospital.

The operator was driving west bound on Chestnut Street before he struck a tree and then crashed into the barn located at 135 Chestnut St., police said. The 53-year-old operator and 43-year-old passenger were both transported to the hospital. Both males were North Reading residents.

The driver is being charged with operating as to endanger the lives and safety of the public, speed greater than proper and a marked lanes violation, according to police. The case is still under investigation and additional charges may be filed.

The building department condemned the barn.

Ha! Drove by there this morning - figured the barn had finally just fallen over!

Humorous? I don’t think so!

If that read like I was laughing at the fact that someone was injured, I apologize. I was laughing at the fact that the barn was in such poor condition to begin with that it could just as easily have fallen over on its own. I'm sorry if you were offended.

Someone felt the need for speed and it wasn't Maverick.

That is Sid Eatons old property. That place is a diasaster waiting to happen. it is falling down. An eye sore and a fire hazard. I can not believe the neighbors and the town allow that building to stay like it is.
