Car Strikes Tree, Crashes into Barn

Two occupants were taken to the hospital.

Around 1 a.m. Friday morning, a car crashed into a tree and then into a barn on Chestnut Street, according to North Reading Police. Two occupants were transported to the hospital.

The operator was driving west bound on Chestnut Street before he struck a tree and then crashed into the barn located at 135 Chestnut St., police said. The 53-year-old operator and 43-year-old passenger were both transported to the hospital. Both males were North Reading residents.

The driver is being charged with operating as to endanger the lives and safety of the public, speed greater than proper and a marked lanes violation, according to police. The case is still under investigation and additional charges may be filed.

The building department condemned the barn.
