North Reading Fire Welcomes Two New Firefighters

These appointments bring the shift strength to five firefighters on three of the four groups.

The North Reading Fire Department swore in two new firefighters on Thursday. 

Cory Harris and Dan Kessell were sworn in during a ceremony at Town Hall. 

Harris is a third generation firefighter and joins the Permanent Department after being a Call Firefighter since 2009. Kessell comes to North Reading after serving as a full time firefighter in Middleton, MA since 2001, according to North Reading Firefighters Local 1857.

These appointments bring the shift strength to five firefighters on three of the four groups; an additional firefighter/paramedic will be hired in the coming months give the department full strength on all groups. This is the first staffing increase since the 1970s, according to North Reading Firefighters Local 1857.
