A cat has another life thanks to North Reading and North Andover firefighters.

Firefighters responded to Spoon Way at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday after a cat got caught in a iron storm grate. North Reading Fire Captain Don Stats, and firefighters Kevin Carter, Vin Zarella and Nick LeCoist arrived and found the cat was unable to free itself.

They removed the grate from the storm drain, but there was no way to free the cat without cutting the drain cover. Firefighters brought the cat to an animal hospital in North Andover where they were met by veterinary staff as well as North Andover firefighters.

The cat was sedated and the firefighters and veterinary staff were able to cut the grate and free the cat.

The North Reading Fire Department said the cat was in good health and veterinary staff found that an ID chip under the cat's skin. The hospital was able to find the owner through the chip and contacted the person, who was reunited with the cat.
