Police Asks for Public's Help in IDing Driver in Crash

North Reading Police is asking for the public's help in finding the driver who struck a wall on Mount Vernon Street early Friday morning.

Police said a speeding, out of control vehicle crossed into the wrong lane of traffic while traveling west on Mount Vernon Street shortly after 2 a.m. Friday. The vehicle struck a retaining wall at 26 Mount Vernon St., and knocked off a mailbox, which struck a parked car.

The accident was reported the next morning.

According to North Reading Police:

"It is believed that the retaining wall prevented the vehicle from crashing directly into the house where the damage occurred. Investigating officers documented over 150 feet of tire marks left in both lanes of travel by the speeding out of control vehicle.

"We are actively attempting to identify the responsible party. It is suspected that the driver’s front tire was significantly damaged or destroyed by the impact. Anyone who may have seen or heard anything in that area of Mount Vernon Street, Haverhill Street etc., is asked to contact NRPD at (978)-664-3131 and reference case 14-5118-OF.
