POLICE LOG: Resident Receives Scam Call About a 'Texas Oil Company' Investment

Monday, Jan. 27

At 4:43 p.m., a North Reading resident reported someone called him and asked him to invest $80,000 in a “Texas oil company” and he would in turn get $500,000 in a year. Police referred the incident to detectives.

At 7:51 p.m., a motorist reported striking a deer on North Street near Eugley Park East. The deer left the area.

At 8:27 p.m., police receive a call from Haverhill Street near New Street after a motorist struck a deer. The driver was not injured, but the deer was killed.

Tuesday, Jan. 28

At 9:36 a.m., a Park Street man reported the fraudulent sale of construction equipment. Police took a report.

At 2:22 p.m., police responded to Lowell Road after a motorist struck a pole. There was major damage to the pole and North Reading Fire notified Reading Municipal Light Department to fix the pole. The driver was taken to Lahey Clinic and the car was towed.

At 5:46 p.m., an employee at a Main Stret business reported two suspicious men. The caller said the men smelled of marijuana, bought binoculars and asked about flashlights. They paid for items using change. Police forwarded the information to the detectives unit.

 

Wednesday, Jan. 29

At 7 p.m., police responded to Washington Street after a customer opened a bottle of Axe spray and then left without purchasing it. Police spoke to the 18-year-old who apologized and purchased the item.

 

Thursday, Jan. 30

At 8:04 a.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Main Street. There were no reported injuries, but both vehicles were towed. One driver was cited for failing to grant a right of way.
