MBTA Police arrested a North Reading man for resisting arrest and warrants for multiple charges on Monday afternoon.
Police arrested Sean Burke, 29, of North Reading, and charged him with resisting arrest and warrants for receiving stolen property, larceny, possessing a Class E substance and possessing a Class A substance.
A Transit Police officer at the MBTA’s JFK UMass station in Boston saw Burke smoking a cigarette next to a “No Smoking” sign. The officer asked Burke to extinguish the cigarette, according to Transit Police.
Burke left the station, but then returned and asked the officer to let him enter through the fare gates without paying. Burke insisted that he should not have to pay again.
The officer found that there were warrants for Burke’s arrest and he tried to place the North Reading under arrest. Burke reportedly resisted, pushed the officer and ran from the station onto Columbia Road.
Several Transit Police units responded and found Burke hiding inside a Tedeschi’s on Dorchester Avenue. Police arrested Burke for resisting arrest and multiple warrant charges.
