Residents voted Tuesday in the Senate special election. Both Republican Gabriel Gomez and Democrat Ed Markey were in the race for the Senate seat once held by John Kerry. Markey won the election, but Gomez won over North Reading voters.
Originally, Town Clerk Barbara Stats was anticipating a low turnout, but she said the polls were steady and the turnout was better than she thought given the heat, last day of school and that it was just one race.
