Search for New Superintendent of Schools Begins

The School Committee will start an internal search.

With Superintendent Kathleen Willis’ retirement coming in the fall, the School Committee has begun the process of finding a new head of the North Reading Public Schools.

The committee voted last week to perform an internal search for possible candidates. If qualified internal candidates come forward, the committee will hold public interviews and likely host other events with the community.

If no qualified internal candidates come forward, the committee will expand to a global search.

The School Committee will discuss the matter further before Town Meeting on Monday.

School Committee member Mel Webster said the committee wants to implement an “accelerated process, but not a rushed process.”

Webster and Karen Errichetti are on the subcommittee coordinating the search. They have prepared a job description, which the board will review on Monday.
