North Reading’s Alex Carpenter netted her second goal of the Olympics during a 9-0 win over Switzerland on Monday.

The U.S. Women’s Hockey team scored five first-period goals, including three in 55 seconds, which is an Olympic record.

Carpenter scored the team’s ninth goal on a breakaway at 15:39 of the third period.

The U.S. Women’s team next takes on Canada on Wednesday.

Carpenter has been getting a lot of notice at the Olympics. Fox Sports wrote an article about how her father, former NHL star Bobby Carpenter, never played in the Olympics and how Alex is living his dream.

Alex, keep up the good work. You are living the dream of a lot of girls, even the old ones that started playing hockey in the early 70's, in an outdoor rink at 5am. It has become a reality for the girls on your team and we are living through it with you. It is a good feeling that girls hockey has come a long way. Congratulations to you and your team. GO USA!!!! You have a good coaching staff too (women).
