North Reading’s Jimmy Vesey is up for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which is given to the best NCAA Division 1 hockey player -- and you can help him get into the list of finalists.
As of 2 p.m. Thursday, Vesey was in the top five vote-getters. Voting doesn’t close until March 9. You are allowed to vote once per 24 hours.
The top 10 finalists will be announced on March 20, which will be reduced further to three players in the Hobey Hat Trick on April 2. The winner will be announced on April 11.
Vesey is a sophomore forward at Harvard where he was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and was selected to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team. He was selected in the third round of the NHL draft by the Nashville Predators.
“Criteria for the award include candidates emulating the exceptional character traits exhibited by the award’s namesake, Hobey Baker. Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration is also given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship,” according to the NCAA.
Previous winners include NHL stars Ryan Miller and Chris Drury.
