North Reading Baseball Loses in State Semifinal

The Hornets' season ends in extra innings.

North Reading High baseball went down to defeat 2-1 to Bellingham in eight innings in the state semifinal game on Tuesday.

The Hornets threatened in the top of the eighth and loaded the bases with no outs, but Bellingham was able to get out of trouble. The Hornets' season ended in the bottom half of the inning.

With the loss, North Reading's dream of winning a second state title in three years ends. It's also the end of coach Frank Carey's long career. The winningest high school baseball coach ended with 736 wins.
