US Women’s Hockey Goes for Gold on Thursday

North Reading's Alex Carpenter scored for the US on Monday.

The US Women’s Hockey team crushed Sweden 6-1 on Monday and will now look for revenge against Team Canada on Thursday.

The Gold Medal game will be shown on NBC at noon Thursday. (There will be a re-broadcast at 5 p.m. Thursday.)

The US team beat Sweden 6-1, but it could have been much worse if not for the Sweden’s amazing goalkeeping. The US peppered two Swedish goalies with 70 shots. The US outshot Sweden 70-9.

American goals were scored by North Reading's Alex Carpenter, Kacey Bellamy, Amanda Kessel, Monique Lamoureux, Megan Bozek and Brianna Decker.

The US will take on Canada, which beat Switzerland 3-1 on Monday. The Canadians beat the Americans earlier in the Olympics, 3-2.
