US Women’s Hockey Lose in Gold Medal Shocker

Minutes away from the Gold, the US Women's team lost after three unanswered goals by Canada.

Up 2-0 with four minutes left in the third period, the US Women’s Hockey team was so close to Olympic gold on Thursday.

But two late goals and an OT winner by Canada’s Marie-Philip Poulin shocked the Americans and lifted Canada to the 3-2 win in the Gold Medal game.

The local women scored both goals for the US.

Danvers’ Meghan Duggan’s opened the scoring in the first period with a wrist shot from the left circle. Her goal was followed by North Reading's Alex Carpenter who knocked in the Americans’ second goal. 

The US women will return home with the Silver medal.
