As part of Simons Malls' Book Blast, Northshore Mall is hosting a free event that will feature a local children’s author, Jane Sutton, on Saturday, March 15.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sutton, who is the author of “Don’t Call Me Sidney” and “The Trouble with Cauliflower,” will have a read-aloud session as well as take part in activities and games related to the books she reads. All parents and children are invited to bring books to life through real-aloud sessions, giveaways and story-inspired activities.

Sutton will also sign books for people who purchase them, share how authors write and will bring some copies of her drafts.

Simon is teaming up with Better World Books to provide each child who attends with a “pre-loved book” and bookmark.

Peabody Library will also host readings and will offer Library Card sign-up.

In addition, children are invited to bring a new or gently used book to the event that can be donated to Extended Stay in Danvers or Econo Lodge in Danvers for families living in those hotels.

The event is part of the Simon Kidgits Club, a program that focuses on health, wellness, education, safety and entertainment for children ages 3-8.

“Because Simon Malls are destinations for families and friends to do more than just shop, Simon Kidgits Club is giving children the chance to experience all that books have to offer in a social setting,” said Jayne Stilson, assistant vice president of business development for Simon Brand Ventures, the business-to-consumer division of Simon Property Group. “We’re combining education with fun and allowing kids to simply have a blast with reading.”
