Liquor to be Served at Resorts North Pool

The selectmen approved an amendment to the liquor license Monday night.

Owner of Resorts North, formerly the Thomson Country Club, Nick Yebba Sr. went before the Board of Selectmen Monday night to amend his liquor license so he could sell liquor by the pool.

Members may want a cold beer or a glass of wine while sitting by the pool, Yebba said. There will be a service bar only that is available exclusively for members. We will not leave liquor on the premises, Yebba said.

The board held a public hearing and two residents were concerned with the sale of liquor by the pool.

An Elm Street resident said that he is not comfortable with liquor in the swimming area. He said that his wife had to save a child who almost drowned in a swimming pool because the mother of the child looked away for just a minute.

"I'm very much against liquor near a pool," he said.

A Gillis Drive resident said that he is aware that Yebba has experience owning his own businesses and asked if he had any experience with a business serving alcohol by a pool.

Yebba said he did and he mentioned the Embassy Suites at Logan Airport, which he owns. He said that it's very controlled and completely secure.

Yebba said that there will be a lifeguard on duty at all times. Town Administrator Greg Balukonis asked if the lifeguard personnel would be prepared if someone was intoxicated. Yebba said that they would, and those serving the alcohol will be prepared as well.

Selectmen Chairman Sean Delaney asked when he expected to be fully operational. Yebba said he had been working seven days a week and is hoping that it will be open by the first or second week of July.

The steak house, Theresa's Prime, may not be open then, as they are building three kitchens, he said.

"It looks like you’ve done a great job," Selectman Joe Foti said.

Selectman Bob Mauceri said that the town is very fortunate to have a person like Yebba running the facility because of the "depth of experience he has."

"He's invested a lot of money here and he's got a lot at risk, so I think he is going to be more on guard here than probably some of his other places because of what he has on the line," Delaney said.

Selectman Mike Prisco was not present at the meeting, but the other four board members were in favor of the amendment to the license and liquor will be served by the pool at Resorts North.
